일찍이 노스웨스턴 국제 타악기 콩쿠르 2위는 물론 제네바 국제콩쿠르 타악기 부문 역대 최연소 본선 진출자, 슈투트가르트 세계 마림바 콩쿠르 우승 및 위촉곡 최고 해석 특별상에 네덜란드 트롬프 타악기 국제콩쿠르에서 한국인 최초로 준우승을 따내는 등 공성연은 두말할 것 없이 최고의 연주자 중 한 사람이다. 그러면서도 공성연은 마림바부터 박스까지, 클래식부터 즉흥까지, 악기부터 다채로운 사물까지 자신의 음악 안으로 끌어들여 창의적이면서도 풍성한 연주를 들려준다. 올해 공성연의 서울드럼페스티벌 무대에서 타악의 스펙트럼을 넓혀 줄 번뜩이는 순간을 목격할 수 있으며, 도날드 바렛(Donald Barrett)과의 협연을 통해 장르를 초월한 오직 이 곳에서만 만날 수 있는 음악을 보여주고자 한다.

Artist introduction
Seongyeon Kong is undeniably one of the world’s finest percussionists. Her accolades include 2nd prize at the Northwestern International Percussion Competition, being the youngest finalist in the history of the Geneva International Music Competition (Percussion), winning the World Marimba Competition Stuttgart (along with the Special Prize for Best Interpretation of a Commissioned Work), and becoming the first Korean runner-up at the TROMP Percussion Biënnale Eindhoven. Her musical range is vast, incorporating everything from the marimba to everyday boxes, and from classical to improvisation. At this year's SDF, witness a brilliant moment that expands the spectrum of percussion through her transcendent collaboration with Donald Barrett.
