Set against the unique atmosphere of Nodeul Gallery 2, Emotional Percussion is a hybrid program where exhibition, hands-on experience, and live performance come together. Featuring artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, the program connects with audiences through performances and talks. Starting from 17:00 on Saturday and Sunday, participating artists will showcase the unique charm of percussion through improvised performances.

In Korean traditional music, daseureum refers to the act of tuning both the instrument and the musician’s mind before a performance begins. Sometimes, this tuning itself becomes a form of performance. In this piece, deep and delicate vibrations from the gong and drum create a resonant space, where the gentle yet sometimes piercing melodies and rhythms of the gayageum flow through. Together, they soothe and attune the body and mind, weaving a quiet texture of tranquility.

Mariana Baraj arrives carrying the winds of the Andes, singing of the fierce gusts that race through mountain valleys and the quiet vastness of endless highlands. Chang Jae-hyo, who has traveled the world with his janggu, brings his unique rhythm shaped by years of global encounters. The two percussionists first met in Brazil in 2009, and since then, their bond has grown across Korea, Japan, and Argentina. This performance will showcase a percussion ensemble rich with warmth and emotional depth, shaped by years of friendship.

EP: Sentimental Duo – electree (feat. Chang Jae-hyo)

Geomungo player Lee Jeongseok and keyboardist Yoo Youngha are also composers and producers. Having built their own domains in traditional Korean music and the pop scene respectively, the two have joined forces to create a new emotional sound that transcends genres. The geomungo, a string instrument, is also an instrument with strong percussive qualities due to its unique playing technique. Together with percussionist Jang Jae-hyo, they aim to present a unique sound that crosses between rhythm and jangdan (traditional Korean rhythmic patterns), tradition and modernity.
